Hamilton Community Foundation Announces Veteran Scholarship Recipients

(HAMILTON, Ohio)---

The Michael J. Colligan Fund was established at the Hamilton Community Foundation in 1994. Through the generosity of the late Mr. Colligan, tuition scholarships are available each year to Veterans who are residents of Butler County and are returning to school. Michael J. Colligan, a native of Hamilton and graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School, served in the U. S. Army in the 1940’s and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. This year 10 scholarships have been awarded to area Veterans for tuition, totaling more than $18,000.

Congratulations to the following 2009 Michael J. Colligan Memorial Scholarship recipients:

Robert Hubbard – Columbus State Community College
Henry Loyd – Xavier University
David Luce, Jr. – Miami University
Scott Miller – Miami University
William Schellenbach – Miami University
Jacob Shiflett – Miami University
Jason Umbach – Miami University
Timothy Williams – Miami University
Christel Zajbel – Miami University

Veterans who are residents of Butler County are eligible to apply. Applications for 2010 will be available in January on the Hamilton Community Foundation website.

The Hamilton Community Foundation is a public charity committed to improving the quality of life for the greater Hamilton, Ohio community and its residents. Founded in 1951 with one $5,000 fund, the Foundation now manages more than 470 charitable funds. The Michael J. Colligan Fund is one of the 470 separate funds serving the needs of area citizens.
