Scholarships for College Students
The Hamilton Community Foundation understands the need for assistance with funding education beyond the first year in college. The funds listed below are to assist students in their Sophomore, Junior and Senior years in college. (Graduate students are not eligible unless stated otherwise in the scholarship description)
Eligibility
To qualify, a student must:
- NOT have received a renewable scholarship from the Hamilton Community Foundation
- Attend a technical school, college or university and have at least one full year in college completed and have achieved a 2.5 GPA
- Have graduated from a high school in greater Hamilton area. Hamilton, Badin, Ross, New Miami, Edgewood, Fairfield, Talawanda, Lakota East or Lakota West
- Be a full-time student
- Demonstrate financial need
Each year, students are eligible to reapply, but awards are not guaranteed. Scholarships vary in amount and are based on college costs, student needs and available funds. The number of recipients and amount of each scholarship are determined by the Foundation. All decisions are final.
Donald S. and Jennie E. Martin Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established upon the death of Mrs. Martin to support the educational needs of students in our area. While the Martin’s didn’t have children of their own, they were big supporters of many youth programs and organizations throughout their lives. Through this scholarship fund, the Martin’s will continue to give to the young people in our community.
Judge John & Shirley Moser Scholarship
Judge John and Shirley Moser created this fund to provide educational scholarships. Judge Moser retired from the Butler County Common Pleas Court after serving 20 years on the bench, the last seven as Presiding Judge. He and Shirley have three children, Linda Clifton, Janet Vogt and Donald Moser.
Adeline Zoller Scholarship
This fund was established upon Adeline’s death July 9, 2005 at the age of 91 to support the educational needs of those in our community. According to her nephew, John Zoller, Adeline was a trailblazer. She was an inspiration to the next generation of women in the family because of her independence and determination. A graduate of Hamilton High School and Columbia University, she was described as a “real treasure” to the Hamilton Community. Her passion for others was exemplified by her numerous leadership roles with area organizations.
She served on the boards of the United Way, Fort Hamilton Hospital and Fort Hamilton Foundation, Hamilton’s Park Commission, Hamilton Chapter of the American Heart Association, American Red Cross and many others. In addition to supporting educational needs with this scholarship fund, Adeline also supports the Fitton Art Center through the Adeline Zoller Arts Endowment. A beautiful community was important to Adeline as well and funds are provided through the Civic Beautification Fund to continue to provide beautiful flowers throughout our community.
Adeline was recognized by several organizations for her work in the community. To name a few, she received the Outstanding Woman of Achievement Award; was the second woman inducted into Junior Achievement’s Hall of Fame; named Hamilton Citizen of the Year, YWCA Woman of the Year, receive the Hamilton Chamber’s “I Care Award” and recognized by the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council. Adeline was a brave, determined, but loving and giving person and her legacy will continue through the various charitable funds and the many lives affected by her gifts.
Keely Dental Society of Butler County Scholarship
This scholarship is for college students currently enrolled and majoring in an accredited dental or dental hygiene school. Award is $3,000 for one year.
The University of Cincinnati Law School Fund
This fund was established for a University of Cincinnati Law School student residing in Butler County, with preference going to a Hamilton resident. This scholarship is based on financial need and awards $500 for one year.
Guy Pennington Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established in memory of Guy R. Pennington by his aunt, Miss Marie Iutzi, to provide a scholarship for a medical student planning to practice family medicine. Guy developed medical problems after high school and was never able to be employed. After his parents, C. Raymond and Ruth Iutzi Pennington, died, Miss Iutzi cared for him until his death in 1983. Miss Iutzi described Guy as her “pride and joy.”
National Religious Music Week Alliance Scholarship
This award assists a Junior or Senior in college pursing a degree in music ministry with a view toward serving as a church music director or minister of music. This scholarship is open to all faiths. To apply, visit www.religiousmusicweek.org. |
