Investing in Leadership for a Stronger Hamilton

Leadership Development

As a Community Foundation, we know that great communities are shaped by great leaders. That’s why we’re committed to helping people grow their leadership skills, make connections, and give back in meaningful ways. Whether it’s students discovering the power of philanthropy, women stepping into civic leadership, or professionals strengthening their impact, our programs offer hands-on experiences, mentorship, and the support needed to lead with confidence.

Youth Philanthropy Committee (YPC)

YPC is one of the Hamilton Community Foundation’s longest-running leadership programs, empowering high school students to become thoughtful, community-focused leaders. For more than 15 years, YPC has engaged 20 dedicated students from Badin, Hamilton, New Miami, and Ross high schools, with new members joining this year from Fairfield High School and Cincinnati Christian High School. Guided by Foundation staff and local educators, these students develop key leadership skills—researching community issues, evaluating grant proposals, making consensus-driven funding decisions, and managing meetings effectively. YPC is responsible for awarding approximately $50,000 annually to nonprofit programs supporting youth in the greater Hamilton area, thanks to the generosity of visionary donors.

The program is made possible through the support of several donor-established funds, including the Christopher Courtney Memorial Children's Fund, Butler County Children’s Home Fund, the Exchange Club Fund, Melvin J. and Mary Helen Hauser Memorial Fund, Charles and Elizabeth Heitsman Fund, and the Albert Stuhlmueller Memorial Fund. These donors’ lasting contributions ensure that our young leaders have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their community for generations to come.

Hamilton LINKS Meeting

Hamilton LINKS

Hamilton LINKS is a dynamic leadership program designed to strengthen connections among community leaders while tackling real-world challenges facing Hamilton. A joint initiative of the Hamilton Community Foundation and the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, LINKS provides an interactive learning experience where participants sharpen leadership skills, engage in intentional discussions on pressing local issues, and build a trusted network of peers. With two cohorts already engaged, the program has proven to be a catalyst for lasting professional and personal relationships, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to collaboration. Guided by leadership expert Monica Scalf and longtime community leader Vaden “Woody” Fitton, LINKS continues to grow, bringing together leaders from diverse industries to inspire, support, and drive meaningful change. As we look ahead, we remain focused on fostering deeper community connections and equipping Hamilton’s leaders with the tools to make a lasting impact.

Women Inspiring Philanthropy initiative (WIPi)

The Women Inspiring Philanthropy initiative is designed to empower women with the knowledge, connections, and experience to become thoughtful philanthropic leaders. Through monthly sessions featuring guest speakers, field trips, and in-depth discussions, participants explore critical issues impacting women and girls in our community while engaging with the organizations addressing them. With a focus on education, collaboration, and hands-on giving, each class of 15-20 women develops a personal philanthropy plan, gains experience in group decision-making around grantmaking, and deepens their understanding of board leadership, gender equity, and the intersection of race and gender. By the end of the 10-month program, participants not only make a direct impact through collective giving but also leave with the confidence and tools to continue their philanthropic journey.
