Judge Jack and Shirley Moser

The Hamilton Community Foundation offers donors many options to fulfill their philanthropic goals. Some donors choose one or more avenues to give back to the community. John R “Jack” and Shirley Moser have chosen to utilize multiple ways to work through the Community Foundation to make our community a better place. Jack, who is finishing his term on the Board of Trustees, and Shirley have given gifts of time, talent and treasure through the Foundation.
One of their first gifts was to fund the Gateway Sculpture. “When Gov. Bob Taft came to dedicate the sculpture and named Hamilton the City of Sculpture, I knew I wanted to do more for the community I’m so proud of,” Jack states. Jack recounted how much he appreciated that during his tenure as Circuit Court Judge, he never faced any opposition at election time, and now he is able to give back to the community that supported him so faithfully.
Both Shirley and Jack indicate that they feel the biggest challenge facing Hamilton is the need to promote a strong economic recovery. They also recognize the Foundation’s important role in that recovery. As Jack sees it, “The Foundation has made people aware. Were it not for the Foundation, we would not have the Marriott Hotel; which is essential for a vigorous community. I sincerely feel without the Foundation’s efforts, Hamilton would have been in the depths of depression. HCF has provided the wherewithal to keep our heads above water.”
Jack and Shirley are active throughout the community; Jack at the Foundation and other boards, as well as volunteering his skills as a Master Gardner for many projects and Shirley’s involvement with Civic Theater and Partners in Prime.
The Moser’s 30 year relationship with HCF has produced numerous philanthropic endeavors - a scholarship fund for adults who want to further their education, a donor advised fund to support the many charitable interests they are passionate about, additional giving to important community projects through the Foundation and finally, a commitment to a legacy gift to ensure that their generosity continues to impact the community after they’re gone.
Shirley passed away August of 2023 and Jack passed November of 2024. Their legacy gifts are making a lasting impact for generations to come.
