Donor Services Officer

A Warm Welcome to Our New Donor Service Officer, Alex Johnson!

The Foundation's team has expanded. We are incredibly excited to announce the addition of Alex Johnson, who will be serving as our new donor service officer.

Alex will be working closely with our donors and prospective donors to make sure that their needs are met and that their voices are always heard. A natural people person and a Hamilton native with deep roots in the community, Alex was the perfect fit for this role.

Alex is one of the main points of contact for the community when working with the Foundation, and she will work to make sure that we maintain a strong relationship with each one of our donors as we work together to make the community a better place to live.

We sat down with her to learn more about her upbringing, her goals, and what she hopes to contribute to the Foundation.

Getting to Know Alex

Life Growing Up

I grew up in the Hamilton and Ross area and many of my family members were involved with Ross Public Schools when I was a kid. My grandma was a Morgan Elementary teacher, and I spent a lot of time in her classroom when I was young. She instilled a lot of the values that I hold today, like if there is someone in need and you can help them, you should.

A lot of my free time as a kid was spent at the library where I would spend time researching, looking at old newspapers and learning about local history. Even then I really had a strong interest in the community. It makes sense my career today involves giving back!

Growing up I was involved in Girl Scouts and cheerleading. We learned about local park systems, public institutions, and organizations, but we also got to spend a lot of time giving back and learning what it means to be a contributing member of a community.

That practice of giving back is what inspired me to pursue my Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts from Miami University. Coincidentally, the Hamilton Community Foundation offered me a scholarship.

I went to Miami University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Research. Today I am doing exactly what I went to school for, and I couldn’t be happier about it!

Why Were You Attracted to the Donor Service Officer Position with the Hamilton Foundation?

I mentioned earlier that growing up and working in Hamilton, I made a lot of connections with the people that I work with today. After I graduated college, I wanted to hone my interpersonal skills a little more, so I took a job as a bar manager. It was a fantastic position and I loved working with a team of talented and energetic service professionals. I also enjoyed meeting a lot of the customers and learning about their needs and preferences.

Call it fate, one of those customers was Katie Braswell, Vice President of the Hamilton Community Foundation. I had a strong rapport with Katie because she would come in from time to time to enjoy a meal. After talking with her, I discovered that her role with the Hamilton Community Foundation was almost exactly what I wanted to do in my career.

Katie was excited to learn about my background and she encouraged me to interview for the donor service officer position. I took her advice and was very happy that the Foundation team selected me for the role!

What Do You Hope to Contribute to the Community?

One thing my grandma taught me was that if you can help someone in need, you should. In my role with the Hamilton Foundation, I intend to do just that. I want to work with the amazing donors who collaborate with the Foundation and help them fulfill their vision of making our communities a better place to live.

My goal is to help people and make a positive difference. I want to be one of the good guys all the time and do good things for a community that has done so much for me.

Within the Hamilton Community Foundation, President/CEO John Guidugli and Vice President Katie Braswell are two of my personal role models. They have taught me the power of relationships and how they can shape a community.
